Mama Hen Thoughts

wild & crazy & heavy & holy

What a wild & crazy & heavy & holy ride the last two months have been. We felt like we were wading through dark & heavy water and then moments later - a feeling of luminescence entered the room.

There have been weighty decisions, depleting conversations, tears that just appear. Wake up, repeat and stumble to sleep.

Between the weight though are these tiny, sacred moments. Little sparks of tender existence that you want to memorize and hold forever. Giggling memories of our roaring girl, a connected glance that calms your heart or a smile that escapes through the stress.

Allowing change to enter the room and quiet your grief - that's called a sweet surrender. The rainbows, cardinals, hummingbirds...they appear when we surrender and look high. Trust Him.

And then we start to see the zebras and pears too. Why those? Because surrendering allows you to fully see the wonderful & zany world that God delightfully created...a wildly striped 4-legged animal and a delicate juicy fruit that can never be eaten without making a mess. Yes He Did!!!

So here's to embracing it all; the dark & the sparks.

May this be a summer of the sweetest surrender.

Life is loud...

Life is loud and also so very quiet right now. I’m feeling a bit like Cinderella combined with a tad of spiritual gangster-ness and topped off with sprinkles of assuredness from God.

It is a season of change and change can be strange. Sometimes we chase it, sometimes we fight it and sometimes it simply finds us. Tragedy can paralyze your curiosity and allow fear to remain strong. Until it doesn’t...

The rainbow that appears at dawn and calms your anxiety. The mighty hummingbird that lands and stays long enough to bring tears & laughter. The slew of cardinals that sprinkle their beautiful redness regularly across the backyard.

“It’s okay.”

It’s okay to remember.

It’s okay to smile.

It’s okay to carry her with us.

And it’s okey to move forward with her woven into every part of who we are AND who we will continue to become.

You feel confident and know it’s time.

So here we are - looking up to the sky and winking back at God.

Goodbye fear, hello change.
